CFP: Centennial Study of Anne of Green Gables (2/1/06; collection)

Anne with an "E": The Centennial Study of _Anne of Green Gables_

Proposals are being solicited for the centennial studies volume of Anne of Green
Gables. Topics might include, but are by no means limited to:

· the historic importance of Anne of Green Gables in relation to children's and
adolescent literature, women's literature, Canadian literature, regional
traditions, coming-of-age, feminism, orphan literature, or the novel of
education;
· the character of Anne and her relationships, particularly in regards to the
changing nature of childrearing, parenting, and the family; the role of the
imagination and child speech; the importance of friendship and children's
culture; and changing cultural visions of child/teen development;
· adaptations of Anne in popular culture, including tourism, film, television,
dolls, etc.;
· histories and/or critical evaluation of the novel's reception.

Completed essays will be due October 1, 2006, with the goal of spring 2008
publication with Scarecrow Press's Centennial Studies Series.
