CALL FOR PROPOSALS: SESSIONS, PANELS, PAPERS:

World War I and World War II

NATIONAL POPULAR CULTURE & AMERICAN CULTURE ASSOCIATIONS

2006 JOINT CONFERENCE

April 12 – 15, 2006

Atlanta Marriott Marquis

Faculty members (and interested students) are invited to contribute to sessions on topics relating to World War I and World War II to be presented at the 2006 Conference of the National Popular Culture Association, which will be held April 12-15, 2006, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

The theme of the 2006 WWI/WWII area presentations will be "War and Memory." Papers discussing the role of memory in recalling and describing wartime experiences are especially welcomed. Papers can address non-fiction (memoirs), fiction, poetry, or film. A closely related topic is narrative structure in (re-)telling war stories: how are war stories told?

However, papers addressing any aspect of experience (military or civilian) of World War I and World War II are welcomed as well. Papers on related conflicts (such as the Spanish Civil War or conflicts occurring between the wars) are also encouraged. (Note: there are separate sessions for papers pertaining to the Vietnam conflict or the American Civil War.)

Sessions are scheduled in 1½ hour slots, ideally with four papers or speakers per standard session. Abstracts or papers may be submitted (and queries directed) to the area chair, Dr. David K. Vaughan (Air Force Institute of Technology, retired) at the following mail and E-mail addresses:

David K. Vaughan

2854 Double Eagle Drive

Beavercreek OH 45431

Deadline for submission of papers or abstracts is 1 October 2005.

Presenters must be members of either the Popular Culture Association or American Culture Association at the time of the presentation.
