THE CONTEMPORARY WOMEN'S WRITING NETWORK (CWWN) IS HOLDING ITS INAUGURAL
CONFERENCE 'For Love or Money? Contemporary Women's Fiction in the
Marketplace,' 21–23 April 2006, at the University of Wales, Bangor (UK).

Keynote Speaker: Sarah Waters

CALL FOR PAPERS
This three-day International conference will focus on questions
concerning the relationship between contemporary women's fiction and the
contemporary media. It will address a broad range of issues, including –
among others – the role played by the publishing industry in the
literary marketplace, the relationship between the literary prize and
the formation of a contemporary 'canon' of women writers, the place of
the woman writer in relation to the Higher Education literature
curriculum, the relationship between books and their adaptation for a
media audience through film, television and radio. Suggestions for
themed panels are also welcome.

The acclaimed novelist, Sarah Waters, will be giving an interview about
her work at the conference, including talking about the adaptations of
Tipping the Velvet and Fingersmith for television.

Abstracts (max. 500 words) for conference papers, which will be of 20
minutes' duration, should be submitted no later than 31 October, 2005.
If submitting abstracts for a themed panel, these should be collated and
submitted as a single item. The final selection will be made by members
of the CWWN Steering Group (see below). A draft programme will be made
available by 30 November, 2005.
