The 2006 SW/TX PCA/ACA Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico at
the Hyatt Regency downtown. Join us this year, as a returning or first-time
participant, as we celebrate a new future on Route 66 at this regional
popular culture conference. Further details regarding the conference
(listing of all areas, hotel, registration, tours, etc.) can be found at
http://www.swtexaspca.org.
Proposals for both Panels and Individual Papers are now being accepted for
the Rap Music and Hip Hop Culture Area. Listed below are some suggestions
for possible presentations, but topics not included here are welcome and
encouraged. Additionally, proposals from Graduate Students are particularly
welcome, with award opportunities for best graduate papers.
- Hip Hop Historiography: How do Rap/Hip Hop artists reexamine histories?
- Hip Hop Influences: Pop-culture's influence upon Hip Hop, Hip Hop's
influence upon Pop-culture...
- Flow: Linguistic approaches to Rap and Hip Hop music
- "On My Block": The significance of place and place-name in Rap and Hip Hop
- "How Long Will They Mourn Me?": East/West legacies, Biggie, Tupac, et al
- Whose "Deliverance"?: Anglo slants on Rap and Hip Hop (Eminem, Bubba
Sparxxx, etc)
- "Pour Out a Little Liquor": Rap, Hip Hop, and socioeconomic issues
- Socially Conscious Rap and Hip Hop
- 8 Mile: Filmic representations of Rap Music and/or Hip Hop Culture
- More ideas are encouraged!
Please send abstracts of 250 words with relevant audio/visual requests by
November 15, 2005, to Brian McNely at the email or physical address below.
Panel ideas should include one abstract of 200 words describing the panel,
accompanied by the underlying abstracts of 250 words of the individual
papers that comprise the panel.
