CFP: The Memory of the Body in Asian American Diasporic Literature (9/15/05; NEMLA, 3/2/06-3/5/06)
Northeast Modern Language Association (NEMLA) Annual Convention
Philadelphia, PA
March 2-5, 2006
Call for Papers:
Panel: "The Memory of the Body in Asian American Diasporic Literature"
This panel will critically explore the diasporic sensibility of Asian
American literature, and, through such texts, how memories come to be
embodied, how the body triggers memory and/or registers repression, how
the body becomes the site of memory's performance, and how diasporic
memories affect one's relationship to the racialized and gendered bodies
of oneself and others. We encourage papers that probe the difference
between migration and diaspora and open up the concept of an Asian
diaspora in America beyond simply a post-1965 framework.
Deadline for presentation abstracts: September 15, 2005
Please email 250-500 word abstracts to the panel co-chairs:
Victor Mendoza
Email address: victor_m_at_berkeley.edu
and
Susan Moynihan

Panel approved by the NEMLA Board.
