CFP: Sound Theory and Cinema (8/14/05; SCMS, 3/2/06-3/5/06)
Panel CFP: Sound Theory and Cinema
Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference 2006
Vancouver, March 2-5, 2006
This panel will examine the intersection of sound theory and cinema. Studies
addressing fiction film, non-fiction film, avant-garde works and animation are
all acceptable. Among the broad range of possible topics proposals could
examine the representation or role of technologies of communication within a
particular film or set of films, intervene in on-going debates concerning the
relationship between originals and copies, or challenge the dominance of
particular theories of sound within film studies as a discipline. Research
concerning sound in early cinema and the performance of popular music in film
will also be considered.
Please send a 200-300 word proposal along with a brief bio by August 14th, 2005
to Michael Baker at michael.baker2_at_mail.mcgill.ca.
