CFP: Teaching Environmental Literatures (9/15/05; NEMLA, 3/2/06-3/5/06)
The Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment will
co-sponsor a session on teaching environmental literatures at the
Northeast Modern Language Association Convention Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. The dates for the convention are March 2-5, 2006.

Teaching Environmental Literatures

This roundtable will be devoted to discussing pedagogical strategies for
teaching environmental literature and/or discussions of the concept of
the environment as a tool in teaching any period or genre of literature.
The purpose, focus and value of this proposed roundtable is to cultivate
a conversation about teaching for members of NEMLA with an interest in
environmental literatures. The session welcomes contributions on
teaching all periods and varieties of environmental literature,
especially literatures that cross national boundaries or address border
issues); on ecocomposition, poetry, fiction, nonfiction;
interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and issue-oriented approaches;
experimental pedagogies, including field-based approaches; and resources
for teaching environmental literature (e.g., bibliographies, nonprint
media, or internet materials).

Proposals should be 250-500 words. Send proposals by email to
