CFP: Peace and Power in Medieval Europe (10/31/05; 2/24/06-2/25/06)
CALL FOR PAPERS
23nd Annual Meeting of the
ILLINOIS MEDIEVAL ASSOCIATION
24-25 February 2006
Newberry Library, Chicago
Conference Theme:
"Peace and Power in Medieval Europe"
Keynote Speaker:
Thomas Head, Hunter College, CUNY
The Illinois Medieval Association invites proposals for papers on the
theme of "Peace and Power." Peace in the Middle Ages, like war, was
promoted by individuals and institutions seeking to gain control over
the warring parties as well as over other social, political, cultural
and religious institutions. Papers may examine any aspects of conflict
and conflict resolution, as well as the means through which those
conflicts emerged, were fought, and eventually resolved, whether by
making treaties, paying ransom, declaring victory, and acknowledging
defeat or through representations in literature, art, and religion.
Proposals individual papers and for complete sessions are welcome.
Papers delivered at the conference are eligible for publication in
Essays In Medieval Studies. For consideration, send proposals by
October 31, 2005 to:
