Working Title-Adolescent Medievalism: The Middle Ages Packaged for Children
and Young Adults

For this collection, we are interested in abstracts on how the Middle Ages
has been and is presented to young people. This focus would include both
medieval literature for children and young adults like the "just for kids"
editions of Malory's Le Morte Darthur as well as texts that take place
during the period or use motifs from the period. As in our recent book,
Beyond Arthurian Romances: The Reach of Victorian Medievalism, we are
looking for essays on a broad range of material including novels, comic
books, histories, magazines, and conduct guides like the Boy Scout Manual.
In addition to abstracts about contemporary authors like Avi or Cushman, we
are interested in abstracts that focus on literature from the 18th, 18th,
and early 20th-century writers like Charlotte Yonge, Marguerite deAngeli,
and Rosemary Sutcliffe. Essays concerning pedagogy, particularly how one
teaches the Middle Ages and/or its literature, are also welcome.

Abstracts should be no more than 500 words.
