Call for papers: Latino Studies Focus Group ATHE
Chicago, IL
August 3-6, 2006

The Latino Studies Focus Group of the Association for Theatre in Higher
Education invites panel proposals or individual paper proposals for the
Association for Theatre in Higher Education's 2006 conference. ATHE
2006's conference theme "Theatrical Milestones: Past Legacies, Present
Possibilities, Future Strategies," offers us an opportunity to evaluate
the role of Latino/a American theatre both in hemispheric and global
frameworks as well as to investigate its role as part of particular
local communities.. Given the conference's location at a site with an
active Latino theatre community, we are particularly interested in
panels and papers that bring together scholars and artists, and those
which use alternative and innovative formats. In addition, while we
welcome submissions that approach the theme broadly, we encourage
submissions that address the following subjects:

Latino theatre in the Chicagoland area

The location of Latino/a theatre in hemispheric or global contexts

Interrelationships between latino/a artists and commercial/mainstream
venues and /or Latino artists and academic institutions

Emergent aesthetics, dramaturgies and performative practices in
Latino/a American cultural production.

Panel proposals should be submitted online using the ATHE website
(http://www.athe.org) by November 1, 2005. Only complete panel
proposals will be considered there. Individual paper/project
proposals, consisting of a 250 abstract should be sent to Patricia
Ybarra, Latino/a Focus Group Planner (Patricia_Ybarra_at_Brown.edu) by
October 15, 2005.
