CFP: Studying Yizkor Books (12/1/05; dates not noted)
CFP: Studying Jewish Memorial (Yizkor) Books
Participants are sought for a workshop to be proposed
to the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, in
Washington, DC. Each year, the Center accepts
proposals from groups of six-to-ten scholars to
conduct two-week research workshops at the Museum
during the summer. The aim of these workshops is to
promote discussion of methodologies and research
results, to encourage networking among scholars, and
to foster research and publication. I would like to
bring together scholars interested in yizkor books as
a way to further research into the books.
Although the content of the workshop will depend on
the actual group of participants, the workshop could
look at different approaches to the books, including,
but not limited to, narrative theory, historical
theory, literacy theories, literary theory,
translation studies, comparative studies, and
linguistics. Depending on the participants, the
workshop could also look at different methods of
studying and using the books. Studies of the books, as
well as studies using the books might be addressed.
Topics relating to archival studies, museum studies,
and librarianship will not be given primary attention
in the workshop since the Center is mostly concerned
with the scholarly study of the Holocaust.
If you have an interest in this workshop, please send
a short abstract outlining your research topic, as
well as a cv to me by December 1, 2005. If not,
perhaps you can suggest the names of others who might
be. Please contact me if you have any questions at
horowitzr_at_appstate.edu.
