CFP: Women Writers of Spain and the Americas (1300-1800) (3/15/06; AEEA, 9/21/06-9/23/06)
CALL FOR PAPERS: AEEA 2006
The Asociación de Escritoras de España y las Américas (1300-1800) (AEEA)
invites abstracts for its 2006 Conference held in conjunction with the
Association for Hispanic Classical Theater (AHCT) in Washington, D.C., on
September 21-23, 2006. The keynote speaker will be Christopher Wilson, an
expert on Carmelite iconography and professorial lecturer of Art History at
George Washington University. Karen Berman, of Georgetown University, and
Hugo Medrano, of Gala Theater in Washington, D.C.
(http://www.galatheatre.org/), will direct plays by early modern Spanish
women. A theater workshop will be held at Gala Theater following the
performance there.
Sponsored by Bárbara Mujica, Georgetown University, the AEEA, and the AHCT,
the conference will focus on women¹s cultural production in colonial Latin
America and medieval and early modern Spain. We welcome interdisciplinary
papers and suggestions for discussion panels and workshops on theory,
pedagogy, or other related topics.

Subject line: 2006 Abstract. Papers may be delivered in Spanish or English,
depending on the preference of the speaker.
Graduate students should send abstract plus full 7-10 page paper by 15 March
2006 to: aeeamail_at_yahoo.com. Subject line: 2006 Graduate Submission.
Graduate students will be eligible to compete in the Graduate Award
Competition. For the 2006 conference, we have two special graduate student
awards: 1) A special $250 prize for Medieval Women's Studies and 2) The
Early Modern/Colonial Graduate Student Award, which will be in the amount of
$250 and awarded for the best paper submitted to the competition for
papers on early modern Spain and/or colonial Latin America.
All presenters must pay 2006 membership ($15) and the conference
registration fee ($100 for regular faculty/$50 for students) by 1 June 2006
or AEEA will assume you do not plan to participate. For membership and
