The Canadian Association for Irish Studies (CAIS) invites proposals =20
for presentations of twenty minutes in length =96 as well as full panel =20=
discussions =96 for its annual conference, to be held this year at the =20=
University of Ottawa from June 14-17, 2006. The theme of the CAIS =20
conference this year is =93Urban Ireland.=94 Possible topics, very =20
broadly defined, include (but are not limited to):
-- literary and visual representations of Irish cities=20
-- representations of city life in mass media=20
-- the role of specifically urban concerns in shaping national =20
policy or culture=20
-- Canadian comparisons: Dublin/Ottawa, Galway/Vancouver, Derry/=20
Iqualuit, etc.=20
-- immigration and its impact on urban planning, or on urban culture=20
-- discussions of the rural/urban divide=20
-- historical accounts of the changing nature of Irish cities=20
-- cultural geographies of Irish cityscapes=20
-- discussion of architectural history, or of the future of Irish =20
urban architecture
The deadline for paper proposals is 15 January 2006. Paper proposals =20=
should be 250-500 words in length, in English or French, and sent =20
either electronically or by post to:
