on Luso-Brazilian and Hispanic Literature, Linguistics and Culture

The Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC), Department of Spanish and
Portuguese, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana is hosting a conference
February 19-20, 2006. All papers related to Luso-Brazilian and Hispanic
literature, linguistics and culture are welcome. Our suggested topic for this
year is "Peripheries", although any other topic will also be considered to be
part of the conference. Research on theoretical and applied linguistics,
literature, and culture pertaining to the suggested topics is encouraged.
Peripheries:
- Minority Languages and Literatures.
- Peripheral Identities regarding the nation-state, sexuality, gender,
culture, politics, etc.
- Peripheral/non-traditional Representations: performance, performative
writing, interdisciplinary studies, etc.
- Geographical Peripheries: City vs. Rural, Local vs. National, First World
vs. Third World.
- Ideological Peripheries: Mass Culture and Counter Culture, Sites of
Resistance, History capital "H" vs. Critical Historicism.
- Academic Peripheries: Genre Exploration, Unknown texts, Questioning the way
we do things within the Academy.
Abstract Information: Please submit a 250-300 word abstract with presentation
title by December 2, 2006. Personal information such as name, e-mail
address, university address and paper title should be submitted on a separate
sheet of paper. Abstracts may be sent via post-mail (1 copy) or e-mail. E-mail
attachments must be Microsoft Word documents.
Paper Information: Papers may be in Spanish, Portuguese or English and should
not exceed a presentation time of 20 minutes. A brief discussion and question
session will follow each presentation.
