Announcing the North Carolina Colloquium in Medieval and Renaissance Studies
Seventh Annual Graduate Student Conference

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT
CHAPEL HILL

Topics may include (but are not limited to):

* fact and fiction
* forgery
* perception and reality
* theater and verisimilitude
* portraiture, hagiography, (auto)biography
* memory and nostalgia
* mystical experiences
* witchcraft and magic
* judicial procedures
* scientific explanation
* the True Faith, heresy, and false religions
* writing history

Organizers may also consider abstracts not related to the conference theme.

Submissions for papers are now being accepted. Please send an email (no
attachments) with a proposal to Myra Struckmeyer at
struckme_at_email.unc.edu by December 1, 2005. Be sure to include 1. the
title of the paper, 2. a brief description of its contents (c. 250
words), 3. your name, school of affiliation, and address, 4. a current
email address, and 5. a description of desired audiovisual equipment.

The keynote speaker will be Ruth Nisse, Professor of English at the
University of Nebraska at Lincoln and author of Defining Acts: Drama
and the Politics of Interpretation in Late Medieval England (2005).

The North Carolina Colloquium in Medieval and Early Modern Studies is
a cooperative venture between UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke. It is an
opportunity for graduate students in all fields of medieval and early
modern/Renaissance studies to present their research in a low-key,
supportive environment.
