UW-Madison Theatre and Drama Graduate Student Conference
Call for proposals
April 8, 2006

Graduate Students across the Midwest, we invite you to dust off those
seminar papers or design projects and polish your presentational skills.
The 6th Annual Theatre and Drama Graduate Student Conference at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison welcomes any and all proposals that
address theatres from the classical to the avant-garde. We seek
presentations that examine playwriting, performance, design, pedagogy,
and the spaces they desire to create, whether those spaces are liminal,
mainstream, transmutable, or "between the cracks." Interrogations might
include but are not limited to, notions about establishing and/or
broaching boundaries, or negotiating within them: what makes a work
canonical, modern, postmodern, or on the verge of becoming
post-postmodern; where are the gaps and how does theatre attempt to fill
or create them in text, in production, and in the classroom? Examining
movements from the margins to the mainstream often becomes a way of
understanding historical and contemporary practices. The conference
committee encourages proposals for scholarly and practical presentations
of research, pedagogy, performance, and production. As always, we
welcome proposals for individual papers, but we also seek proposals for
panels (for those of you who would like to form your own groups),
roundtable sessions, and workshops. This is an opportunity for graduate
students interested in any aspect of theatre to showcase your work.

Please submit a proposal of 500 words or less along with your
presentation title; do not include the name of the author on the
proposal page. On a separate page list the following information: title
of presentation, presenter's name, university and department
affiliation, mailing address, and email address.

Submission deadline is December 15, 2005.
