CFP: "Puppets in Space" (12/15/05; journal issue)
Puppetry International Magazine seeks articles and interviews for their
upcoming issue on the theme "Puppets in Space," that is, the many kinds
of spaces puppets perform in. Articles can address, but are not
limited to, the following topics: How does the stage space affect
audience perception of a puppet performance? How do puppeteers design
their own performance spaces? How does the presentation of puppetry
spaces in film differ from that of live performance? What are some
recent innovations in the design of puppet space? This can include
sets specifically designed for stage, television, or film, as well as
found spaces (architectural or natural). We also seek interviews with
(or profiles of) contemporary set designers who work for puppetry
companies.
Puppetry International magazine is a publication of UNIMA-USA (the
American center of the Union Internationale de la Marionette), and
appears semiannually. Each issue explores a theme, which have recently
included puppetry's relationship to dance, opera, spirituality,
sexuality, propaganda and so on. Puppetry International is not strictly
a scholarly publication, but we do publish scholarship, which will be
peer reviewed upon request. Our readership includes many puppeteers and
scholars, but we strive to be accessible to all those with a serious
interest in theatre and the arts.
Contributors will receive a copy of the magazine and may retain the
copyright to their work; minor publication expenses can be covered as
well. Use of images is encouraged. Submissions should be in MLA
format, and no longer than 10 double-spaced pages.
Submission deadline: December 15, 2005.
Please send essays as Microsoft Word attachments in RTF format to
