AFROEUROPEANS: BLACK CULTURES AND IDENTITIES IN EUROPE
LEON (SPAIN) 18-21 OCTOBER 2006
CALL FOR PAPERS/CALL FOR ARTICLES
The international research team "Afroeuropeans: Black Cultures and
Identities in Europe"* will be meeting in Leon, Spain, to celebrate the IV
Conference of African Studies at the University of Leon, under the motto:
"Afroeurope_at_s: Culturas e Identidades / Afroeuropeans: Cultures and
Identities / Afroeuropeens: Cultures et Identités".
The event will take place from the 18th to 21rst October 2006.
Among the invited speakers are:
Agnés Agbotón, Jean-Godefroy Bidima, Lucia Charun-Illescas, Inmaculada
Díaz Narbona, Elvira Dyangani, Kodwo Eshun, Raimi Gbadamosi, Jackie Kay,
Victorien Lavou, Henri Lopes, Landry-Wilfrid Miampika, Malika Mokkedem,
Bernard Mouralis, Donato Ndongo, Mbare Ngom, Rachid Nini and Patrick
Williams.
There will be several open sessions for the presentation of papers during
the conference; we seek contributions from academics and artists who are
developing their research or creation in any discipline related to (black)
cultures and identities in Europe. Some of the proposed topics are:
- Blackness?
- Africannes as counter-culture
- Diasporas
- New and old migrations
- Citizenship
- Border spaces
- The New Europe
- Imaginaries
- Gender(s)
Please submit an abstract of around 200 words in Spanish, English or
French (the final presentation will be limited to a maximum reading time
of 20 minutes) to Dra. Marta Sofía López, dfmmlr_at_unileon.es before March
1rst 2006. Selected papers will be published in the group's electronic
journal, AFROEUROPA. For their final submission, they must follow the
conventions of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (6th
edición).
Additional information on this event will appear from January 2006 in the
web page www.afroeuropa.org
We are also seeking contributions for the oncoming first number of
AFROEUROPA, the e-journal edited by the team. We will admit articles
(3000-5000 words), interviews (3000-5000 words), book, film or exhibition
reviews (500-1000 words), short stories (1000-3000 words) and poetry (up
to 100 lines). Contributions should be original and unpublished, and not
undergoing other processes of evaluation. If the author uses images or
other audio-visual materials, s/he must guarantee that copyright laws are
respected.
Proposals for publication will be peer-reviewed, therefore the author's
name, affiliation or any other data which could facilitate identification
should be omitted from the main text and sent in a separate cover.
Texts must be submitted in Word of PDF format to Dra. Marta Sofía López,
dfmmlr_at_unileon.es before March 1rst 2006; they must follow the conventions
of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (6th edición).
