Participants are being sought for paper sessions on
Fan Art, Fiction, and Culture for the 27th Annual
International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts.

The focus of ICFA 27 is on the fantastic in media
other than the written word or film, including comics
and graphic novels, web design and photo manipulation,
cover art and illustration, picture books and pulps,
film posters and CD covers, trading cards and tarot
cards, cityscapes and landscapes, maps and tattoos and
costuming. The conference will be held in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, from March 15 - 19, 2006 at the
Wyndham Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel. For more
information and updates about the conference, please
visit www.iafa.org.

Possible topics include (but are not limited to)
comparative studies of slash and fan fiction writers
and communities, interactions between writers and
fandoms, relationships between writers and their
controlling narrative, tensions between fanon and
canon, and discussions of specific texts and/or
genres. Since the focus of the conference is on
"media other than the written word," papers on photo
manipulation, "vidding," costuming, and fan art are
also appropriate. Any fandoms based on fantasy or
science fiction, or horror television, film, comics,
gaming, anime, and manga are welcome.

If you are interesting in submitting a paper,
proposals should include a 500-word abstract and
appropriate bibliography indicating the project's
scholarly or theoretical context. Be sure to include
current/working contact information (snailmail AND
email address at least).

Also note whether your presentation would require
audio-visual equipment.
