UPDATE: The Politics of Affect (12/31/05; SSAWW, 11/8/06-11/11/06)
The Politics of Affect in Trauma Texts
This proposed panel will be held at the Society for
the Study of Women Writers Conference (SSAWW) November
8-11 2006 at the Sheraton Society Hill in
Philadelphia, PA. This panel will take up for
discussion the claim by Raymond Williams that the
affective processes examined in art and literature are
unevenly developed, mediated, and structured. Thus,
sentimentalism's reliance on an illusion of
experiential equivalence might be considered
problematic in attempting to negate differences. How
do 20th and 21st century trauma texts written by women
go beyond the19th century sentimentalists, inspiring
negotiation of conflicts, social movements, and
identity formations? Interdisciplinary approaches
encouraged.

Writers website for more details.
