CALL FOR PAPERS

HISTORY ACROSS THE DISCIPLINES 2006:
APOCALYPSE AND APORIA

On behalf of the Dalhousie Graduate History Society and the Dalhousie
Association of Graduate Students in English, we would like to invite Master's
and Doctoral Candidates in all branches of the Humanities and Social Sciences
to
participate in our upcoming graduate student conference taking place from 10-12
March 2006.

Now in its eighth year, History Across the Disciplines is designed to promote
interdisciplinary discussion of the past by bringing together graduate students
with a variety of interests and analytical tools. Submissions are encouraged
that employ a range of methodological approaches to discuss any historical
period or subject.

Those interested are asked to submit a 250-word abstract of their paper as well
as their contact information by 27 January 2005. Papers should be between
3000-5000 words in length and participants will be given approximately 15-20
minutes for presentation. To be considered for the annual John Flint Prize
(valued at $250) final papers are due by 20 February 2005.

Possible topics for papers may include, but are not restricted, to:

Revolutions and Reconciliations
Holocausts and Last Man Narratives
Prophecies (and the failures, successes, opportunity costs) of Cataclysmic
Events
Propaganda and Rhetoric: The Spaces In-Between
Ambiguities, Ambivalences, and (Auto)Biographies
Retrospective Narratives and Retroactive Policies
Misreadings; Misnomers; Malappropriations
Militaristic Visions and Fallout
Historical, Literary, Theoretical Conundrums; Quandaries; Quagmires; Canniness
Chain Reactions and Troping
Evolutions (of humanity, thought, and/or genre)
Conspiracies and Slippage
Rule and Rulers: Turnover, Recovery, Ballast
Geographies and Geopolitics
Expenses and Defences: Gift and Exchange
Existential (versus?) Phenomenological
Or, Nothingnesses
[Anything Beyond Comprehension, Really]
