The Mark Twain Circle section at SAMLA invites proposals on
            "Hope, Despair, and the Later Mark Twain."

Presenters may discuss how the later Twain perceived the world-or
cosmos-in his late writings, or how he depicted existence, God, or the
human situation in general. The focus might be on Twain as skeptic or
believer, as determinist or believer in free will, comic liberator or
despairing pessimist.

Presenters must be members of SAMLA by 1 May 2006. The SAMLA meeting
will be in Charlotte, North Carolina.
