New Zealand, France and the Pacific
The 13th annual conference of the New Zealand Studies Association (NZSA)
together with the Centre de Recherche sur les Identités Culturelles et les
Langues de Spécialités (CICLaS)
University Paris Dauphine, 29 June to 1 July 2006
This major international event will be the first time NZSA has held its
successful series of annual conferences outside of the UK. In 2006 it will
be collaborating with the Centre de Recherche sur les Identités Culturelles
et les Langues de Spécialités, University Paris Dauphine. Sessions will take
place over 3 days and will work within three broad strands: New Zealand and
France, New Zealand and the Pacific, and France and the Pacific. There will
also be five keynote papers (details forthcoming). The conference is
supported by University Paris Dauphine and the New Zealand Embassy, Paris.
It will be held in the top floor conference suite of the University Paris
Dauphine with balcony views of Le Bois de Boulogne and La Tour Eiffel. On
the first night there will be a special reception and conference dinners on
the Thursday and Friday. Proposals for papers of 20 minutes must be sent by
6 January to either Dr Ian Conrich, Chair of NZSA <ian_at_ianconrich.co.uk>, or
Professor Martine Piquet, director of CICLaS <martine.piquet_at_free.fr>.
Abstracts need to be 250-300 words and accompanied by a bio sketch of
100-150 words. A decision on proposals received will be made by 27 January.
Initial enquiries pre-proposal are welcomed and we will give priority to
proposals received from members of NZSA. Several conference publications are
already being planned.
The conference encourages a diversity of approaches and subjects within the
stated themes. Suggested topics for proposals include: art (Gauguin, Matisse
or Len Lye in the Pacific), politics (the nuclear Pacific, the Rainbow
Warrior, defence policies and security), literature (French writers in NZ,
NZ writers in France: Katherine Mansfield, Janet Frame, Allen Curnow, James
