IV International Joseph Conrad Conference at Maria Curie-Sklodowska
University Lublin Poland, 19th-23rd June 2006

                                               CIRCULAR II
                                      CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

I. Abstracts:
We plan to publish a booklet of abstracts of papers prior to the
conference and to distribute it among participants on registration.
Participants presenting papers are requested to send their
abstracts as soon as possible, by February 15th, 2006 at the
latest. The text, in English, should not be longer than 300 words.
Abstracts exceeding this word limit will be condensed by editors of
the booklet. An abstract should contain no references. The heading
of an abstract should contain an author's name and surname,
University, town and country and the title of his/her paper - all
those given in capital letters. Please send your abstract as an
e-mail attachment to Dr. Monika Majewska's e-mail address:
mmajewsk_at_klio.umcs.lublin.pl

II. Scientific program:
The scientific proceedings will consist of papers on various
aspects of Joseph Conrad's life and works and matters related
thereto (Conrad's Polish and East European contexts will be one of
the focuses of the conference). Apart from two inaugural plenary
lectures and two concluding plenary lectures, all papers will be
delivered in sections running in parallel sessions. Kinds of
sessions and their number will be decided upon and announced when
we have completed the program of the conference. Each paper
presentation should not exceed 35 minutes plus 10 minutes for
discussion. English will be the official language of the
   conference.

III. Publication of the conference proceedings:
Presentation of a paper at the conference does not automatically
guarantee its publication in the conference proceedings. Select
papers from the conference will appear in a volume of the series
Conrad: Eastern and Western Perspectives published by East European
Monographs Boulder and Maria Curie-Sklodowska University Lublin
and distributed by Columbia University Press New York (as a
follow-up to the first fifteen volumes of this series published
between 1992 and 2006). Papers, in two hard copies, should be
submitted for publication consideration either on registration for
the conference or by 30th September 2006 at the latest (there is no
length limit fixed for papers submitted for publication). Then,
they will be subjected to a regular reviewing process. Final
versions of papers accepted for publication should be submitted on
a diskette in any Word system and in two hard copies. The text,
double-spaced, should follow the MLA Style Sheet.

IV. Locations of the conference:
The conference will take place on 19th June in Lublin at Maria
   Curie-Sklodowska University and on 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd June
in The Polish Press Association Conference Centre in Kazimierz
Dolny, a lovely little town of Renaissance architecture on the
Vistula river, 50 kilometres west of Lublin and 150 kilometres
   south of Warsaw.

V. Tour:
The conference will be followed by a tour of "Conrad's
Polish-Ukrainian Footprints" taking place in Lviv, Berdychiv,
Terekhove and Zhytomyr. The tour will start on 24th June in the
morning from The Polish Press Association Conference Centre in
Kazimierz Dolny and will take place between 24th and 28th June. Of
course, participants are free to choose between taking part in the
conference only or in both the conference and the tour. They are
also free to take part in some of the planned events. Please
inquire in Ukrainian Embassy in your country whether you need an
   Ukrainian visa.

VI. Financial principles of the conference:
1. Participants' travel costs to Poland and back are to be met by
them. 2. All individual costs of participation in the conference (i.e.
accomodation and meals) are to be covered by participants themselves.
3. There is no conference fee. All general costs of the conference are
met by the organizing committee from grants and donations and by Maria
Curie-Sklodowska University Lublin. They include mainly the cost of
hiring rooms for holding sessions, of serving tea/coffee during the
conference breaks, of transportation of conference participants by
coach from Warsaw-Okecie international airport to Lublin and from
Lublin to The Polish Press Association Conference Centre in Kazimierz
Dolny, of printing the booklet of abstracts and the program of the
conference. 4. All costs of participation in the tour of "Conrad's
Polish-Ukrainian Footprints" are to be met by its participants. A tour
fee will be fixed to cover the cost of transportation by coach on the
tour.

VII.Donations:

contribute donations to the organizing committee to help it cover
the general costs of the conference. Please write your cheques to:
