CFP- TEACHING MEDIEVAL LITERATURES: PILGRIMAGE AND THE
JOURNEY

March 3-4, 2006

There are many different journeys that take place in
Medieval literatures. Some are deliberate and
intentional, such as the pilgrimage. Others are less
planned or unintentional.

Possibilities might include:
The intentional spiritual journey – pilgrimage near
and far
The unintentional journey – the wanderer, exile,
outcast
The journey for art or music – from the scop to the
troubadour
The journey in imaginative literature – from dream
vision to rite of passage
The journey in performance -- cycles and morality
plays
The (non) fictional journey – Mandeville and the world
of travel narrative
Journey for commerce or politics
Crusades as journey/pilgrimage

Hill Rd., halfway between Georgia State University in
downtown Atlanta and University of Georgia in Athens,
GA.

For the sixth annual Teaching Medieval Literature
conference, this year's speaker will be Dr. Jeanne
Krochalis from Pennsylvania State University.
