April 2006 will mark the sixtieth birthday anniversary of the noted Nigerian critic and scholar, Professor Agwonorobo Enaeme Eruvbetine. A.E. Eruvbetine's career spans over three decades, and includes distinguished service as teacher, critic and administrator. He has undertaken groundbreaking work in English Romantic Poetry, Literary Theory, Myth Criticism and Early Modern Studies. He is author of Intellectualized Emotions and the Art of James Joyce (New York: Exposition-University, 1980); editor of Aesthetics and Utilitarianism in Languages and Literatures (Ojo: LASU, 1990), Concepts of the Ideal in English Studies (Lagos: Unilag Dept of English, 1990), The Humanistic Management of Pluralism: A Formula for Development in Nigeria (Lagos: Unilag Arts, 2001) among several others. Between 1997 and 2001, he was Dean of Arts at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria and in 2004/2005, he was Visiting Professor at Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria.
   
  As part of our efforts to celebrate a life of scholarly achievement, we deem it necessary to publish a festschrift comprising the contributions of scholars working in the disciplines of Literary Studies, Language and Linguistics, and Philosophy. Prospective contributors might look at some of the following issues, although they are welcome to explore related subjects of their own choosing:
   
  1. Poetry and Social Harmony
  2. Indigenising Literary Theory
  3. Myth and Literature
  4. The Language of Poetry
  5. Literary Theory and Language
  6. Philosophy and Literature
  7. Humanism and the Arts
  8. English Romantic Poetry
  9. The Influence of the Later Moderns on Nigerian Literature
  10. Urhobo Language, Literature and Culture
   
  All contributions should be no longer than 20 pages, in 12-point Times New Roman font, typed double-spaced and should specify the preferred sub-theme. They must utilize the MLA system of referencing, and be accompanied by an abstract of about 250 words. A five-line paragraph containing autobiographical information should be included.
