CFP: Transoceanic Dialogues (3/15/06; PAMLA, 11/3/06-11/4/06)

The 2006 Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA)
Conference will be held at The University of California, Riverside on
November 3 and 4 and will have as its special topic Transoceanic
Dialogues. Several sessions will be devoted to literary and philological
aspects of this topic. We invite papers in areas such as, but not
limited to, the following: transoceanic dialogues in a particular
period, genre, or movement (i.e. the Renaissance, the novel,
Romanticism); transoceanic racial, colonial, or postcolonial encounters;
the maritime, navigation, and cartography in literature; the cabinet of
curiosities; transoceanic cultural and linguistic exchanges;
transoceanic feminisms; diaspora and literary form; dissemination,
preservation, creolization and destruction of languages in relation to
world travel, trade, and colonialization; comparative studies in the
literature of slavery and abolition; ethnography as a literary genre.
