George Bernard Shaw at 150: Theater, Criticism, Contemporanity

In his theatrical and critical writings, George Bernard Shaw repeatedly figured
himself as a prophet. How in this, his sesquicentenial year, can we articulate
Shaw's prophetic contemporanity? How does Shaw's theatrical-critical project
still speak to us today? Approaches grounded in either current events and mass
culture (e.g., "Creative Evolution," Kansas, and Dover, Pennsylvania) or
contemporary (inter)disciplinary and theoretical discources (e.g., Back to
Methuselah and the Post-Human) are encouraged. Possible topics may include
(but are not limited to) performance, gender, science, religion, education,
media, politics, economics, war, history, etc.
