CFP: Resisting the Goddess: Disguising the Sacred Feminine (03/01/06;

Proposals are sought on the topic of the sacred feminine, a consistent th=
eme
in literary history, but also one which has received renewed attention in=
religious studies and which was recently popularized by the novel The Da
Vinci Code and its attendant controversies. Especially welcome are
proposals which discuss the textual and academic resistance to representi=
ng
the sacred feminine. Possible authors would include Conrad, Joyce, Woolf=
,
Hemingway, but the panel is not limited to modernist authors. Please sen=
