Socialism and Democracy's special issue on science fiction, submission
deadline March 1, 2006

Socialism and Democracy is calling for essays for its forthcoming
special issue on science fiction, slated for publication in November
2006. The tentative title of the special issue is "Social Critique,
Socialism, and Science Fiction." We are looking for essays that address
the relationship between either social critique (such as issues
pertaining to gender, race, class, ethnicity, etc.), and science
fiction, or between Socialist / Marxist perspectives and science
fiction. As the broad nature of the title suggests, we are open to a
variety of interpretations and approaches. However, submissions should
address science fiction or utopian fiction specifically, as opposed to
fantasy, horror, or other related genres. =20

A note on audience for our SF scholars contributing: Socialism and=20
Democracy's readers will require some clarifications and footnoting on
terms and concepts that we take for granted: ex.: "cyberpunk,"
"slipstream fiction," etc. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your
manuscripts. Thanks.

For consideration for publication, submissions of fifteen to twenty-five
pages in length should be sent as a Word attachment to co-editors Alcena
M. D. Rogan, Victor Wallis, and Yusuf Nuruddin (arogan_at_alltel.net,
zendive_at_aol.com, and yusufnuruddin_at_yahoo.com) no later than March 1,
2006. Further inquiries regarding the issue may be addressed to any of
the co-editors listed above.
