Students and Faculty:

I am writing to remind everyone of the upcoming Pacific Rim Conference
on Literature and Rhetoric in Anchorage, Alaska, which is fast
approaching: Feb. 23-25. The original deadline for submission of
12.15.05 has been extended to 02.11.06; as such, I am still accepting
submissions from students and faculty interested in presenting.

Addressing this year's conference are Dr. Cynthia Selfe, Humanities
Distinguished Professor at The Ohio State University, and Dr. Patti
White, Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of
Alabama.

The theme of this year's conference is "Technology, Humanity, and
Change." Papers discussing the ways in which technology has impacted
humanity, or the humanities, will be considered for acceptance.
Suggestions include technology in literature and film (sci-
fi,utopian/dystopian literature, pomo, or Victorian literature), art
(multi media or digital production), social science (digital divide,
technology and society), pop culture (gaming, cyber communities, AI),
and education
(distance learning, e-classrooms, computers and writing).

Note that this list is not inclusive and that all papers from any
discipline relevant to the theme will be considered. Of particular
interest are papers relating to utopian studies and composition
theory. What we are looking for are papers discussing general issues
of human progress in an industrialized society. The scope of the
conference is limited only by the scope of your imagination.

More information, as well as the revised call for papers and sample
abstracts from this year's conference, can be found on our website at
<http://www.pacrimalaska.org>.

It is not too late to secure affordable airfare to Alaska. The Pacific
Rim Conference is a great way to enjoy cutting edge academics in one
of America's last frontiers.

I am hoping to hear back from each and every one of you!

Best always,

Chris Gunderson, Conference Director
