CALL FOR PAPERS
Regular Session: Women's Caucus

Women's Caucus of the SCMLA: "How Far Have You Come, Baby? The Impact of Gender on Faculty Evaluations"—October 26, - 28, 2006, Fort Worth, TX

We seek theoretical perspectives and pedagogical perspectives on how gender influences faculty and teaching evaluations from professionals in diverse academic settings—the community college, state college, and private universities. Writers might address how their perceived gender roles shapes student expectations. For example, recent studies by Crabtree, Sapp, Newkirk, and Tannen suggest that while male professors tend to be critiqued on their subject knowledge, their female counterparts are often expected to fulfill nurturing roles in addition to scholarly ones. Abstracts addressing the challenges female faculty continue to experience in diverse academic settings and possible solutions to such challenges are likewise encouraged.

Please send inquiries and abstracts of 300 – 500 words by March 15th 2006 to session chair Dr. Renee Schlueter via email (as attachment or in message body) at renee.schlueter_at_kirkwood.edu
or Dr. Debra Andrist at andrist_at_stthom.edu

Presenters must be members of SCMLA by May 15 2006.
