CALL FOR PAPER ABSTRACTS--THE 4TH NORMAN MAILER SOCIETY CONFERENCE, 2006
=20
The Programming Committee is looking for good proposals for panel =
presentations during the fourth annual conference of The Norman Mailer =
Society, to be held in Provincetown, MA, October 12-14, 2006. The =
theme of this year's conference is "The Political Norman Mailer," but =
papers on other topics related to Mailer and his work are also welcome. =
Please follow the guidelines below carefully.
=20
Send a 50-75 word biographical statement and a 300-400 word abstract of =
the proposed paper--as MS Word attachments only--not in the body of your =
email--by April 15 to the program committee chair: Robert Begiebing, =
email: Rbegiebing_at_comcast.net
Both the biographical statement and the abstract must be suitable for =
the printed program, highly focused, and plainspoken. Accepted papers =
when delivered must be no longer than 20 minutes maximum. Your paper, =
like your abstract, should make a definite point that is developed =
clearly and efficiently in the body of the paper. Funding permitting, =
the Society plans to offer travel grants ($100) to students whose papers =
are accepted.
Kicking off the conference this year will be a panel entitled "The Shits =
Are Killing Us." This panel will be an effort to develop practical ideas =
and strategies for making Mailer's prescience as a social critic better =
known to post-boomer generations. Inquiries are welcome. Abstracts for =
that panel should emphasize realistic strategies that will deliver =
Mailer's relevant political insights and criticisms to technologically =
adept readers, consumers, and academics.
