The focus of this year's conference is "The=20

=E0 The Victorians and Anglo-Saxon history

Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, etc.
=E0 The persistence of Romanticism into the later 19th century
=E0 The historical novel after Scott
=E0 The presence of the history of the novel in the novel
=E0 Victorian psychology of memory
=E0 Religious history and its impacts
=E0 Biblical allusions in Victorian culture
=E0 Historicism in the 19th century
=E0 Empire in India and Victorian mythic ties to the Moghuls
=E0 Archaeology, artifacts, and digging up the past
=E0 Historical appropriation of other cultures
=E0 Victorian portraiture and 17th- and=20
18th-century portraiture conventions
=E0 Late-19th-century critiques of the=20
Victorian period as past and passed.
            
We invite proposals for 20 minute papers or full=20
panels (three papers) addressing any aspect of=20
the theme topic, including discussions in both=20
Victorian and contemporary contexts. We favor=20
proposals that take an interdisciplinary approach=20
or center on issues that may be addressed by more=20
than one discipline. The deadline for proposals=20
is 2 June, 2006. Paper proposals, a maximum of=20
the equivalent of two double-spaced pages, should=20
be emailed to: J. Jeffrey Franklin, University of=20
