2006 Call for Papers, General Issue
Mester, the yearly graduate student academic journal of the Department
of Spanish and
Portuguese at UCLA, seeks articles for its upcoming 35th anniversary
issue to be
published in June 2006.

Our new volume will be open to any topic related to the scope of the
journal. Mester publishes critical articles, interviews, and book
reviews in the fields of Spanish, Portuguese, Spanish-American,
Brazilian, Chicano, and Latina/o literatures and linguistics. Mester
also welcomes articles in other disciplines such as Comparative
Literature, Critical Theory and Cultural Studies. Articles may be
written in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.

Publication decisions are based solely on the quality of the
submissions, which undergo triple-blind review. Mester is dedicated to
publishing work that demonstrates a high level of scholarship. Since
1970, we have built a reputation as one of the best student-run
journals in North America, publishing articles by established scholars
alongside the best work of graduate students. The journal is indexed in
the MLA International Bibliography of Books and Articles under Modern
Languages and Literatures.

To be considered for publication, manuscripts should follow these guidelines:
- Do not exceed 20-25 double-spaced pages (6400-8000 words),
including endnotes and Works Cited (please, start the bibliography in a
new page); Times New Roman font, size 12 point, double spaced.
- Must follow the conventions of the most current edition of the
MLA Style Manual*
- Please send submissions via e-mail at: mester_at_ucla.edu. Use
Microsoft Word 95 or higher.
- Please do not write the author's name on the manuscripts but
include it in a cover letter, along with the title of the article,
institutional affiliation, email and work and/or home address. Please
number all pages, including the bibliography. - Reviews for
works published within the past two years are accepted for the
following categories: academic books, linguistics, new prose and
fiction. Reviews should be between 600 and 2,000 words in length.
Publishers and authors are welcome to submit books for possible
selection.
- Submissions that are being considered by another journal or
any other publisher are not accepted.

The extended deadline is February 15, 2006, but early submissions are
encouraged.
