CFP: Queering Religion
NEXUS Interdisciplinary Conference on Religion and Nation
University of Tennessee, Knoxville
April 7-8, 2006
Keynote Speaker: John D Caputo (Syracuse)
"Beyond Sovereignty: The Weakness of God and the Postmodern Situation"
Reading by Diane Glancy (Macalester College)
Website: http://web.utk.edu/~nexus/
Due date: February 10
We are looking for papers that approach the issue of religion and nation
specifically through a queer lens—by using a framework of Queer Theory, or
simply addressing pertinent issues from a queer perspective, thus enlarging
the scope of the conversation on religion by including perspectives typically
excluded, silenced, or uninvestigated. Potential areas of inquiry include but
are certainly not limited to: the Metropolitan Community Church,
denominational rifts over gay marriage, gay participation in sacrament
services, gay clergy; also queer perspectives on any aspect of religious
teaching, ritual, or worship activity.
Please send abstracts (250-300 words) and brief CVs as Word documents to
Dustin Parrott at wparrott_at_utk.edu or mail to Dustin Parrott, Department of
English, University of Tennessee, 301 McClung Tower, Knoxville, TN 37996.
Deadline for submissions is February 10.
All general inquiries about the conference may be directed to Elaine Childs at
echilds_at_utk.edu. The NEXUS series is organized and hosted by the Graduate
Students in English.
