UPDATE: Zadie Smith (4/30/06; collection)
Submissions are invited for a collection of essays analyzing the novels =
=3D
and short stories of black British author Zadie Smith. The main focus of =
=3D
the collection will be to explore the various ways Smith approaches =3D
issues of race, identity, and post colonialism.=3D20
Suggested topics for discussion include:
Black British/British identity in a global community
Exploring Biracial identity in a British context
Interracial relationships
The utopian view of "race mixing"
A comparative view of post colonialism: immigrant vs. British born =3D
children
Cultural alienation and displacement
It will be important for the collection to include essays on as many of =
=3D
Smith's works as possible. Please consider Smith's short stories as well =
=3D
as her novels.=3D20
Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words
Deadline for abstracts is April 30th 2006
