"What's Theory Got to Do With It? Literary Theory and Future

Currently, theory--in its constructions and its canon(s)--is the subject
of heated debate. Recent books, such as Theory's Empire: An Anthology
of Dissent (2005), have contributed to intense focus on the value,
purpose, and definition of theory.
Literary criticism is often incorporated into the undergraduate
curriculum by requiring introductory courses on its history and practice
and by integrating discussion of literature texts and critical
approaches to them in various courses.

1-2 page abstracts for papers are invited that consider the
ramifications of the current debate over theory for teaching
undergraduate courses in English Studies. Discussion might include new
ways to incorporate and query literary criticism in specific courses,
suggestions for curriculum development, or a consideration and
evaluation of the role of theory in student engagement with poetry and
