CFP: Robert Lowell's Letters & Collected Poems

We seek papers that explore the implications, for teaching and for
American literary history, of the publication of The Letters of Robert
Lowell (2005) and The Collected Poems of Robert Lowell (2003). Papers
might explore these questions:

- How do these collections change our view of Lowell's development as a
poet?
- How do they complicate our notions of Lowell's relationship to
modernism, postmodernism, confessionalism, and other poets of his
generation, including Elizabeth Bishop?
- What do these publications tell us about Lowell's status as a canonical
American poet? as a political poet?
- Do they suggest arguments for or against a renewal of interest in
Lowell?
- How should they affect our approaches to teaching Lowell?

Panelists who are chosen must become members of MLA by April 1, 2006.
Please submit an abstract of 250 words and a current C.V. to Marit
MacArthur at mmacarthur_at_csub.edu and to Grzegorz Kosc at
grzesiekkosc_at_wp.pl by March 15th.
