CALL FOR PAPERS

The Fourteenth Annual Perth Medieval and Renaissance Group Symposium
"World as Stage / Stage as World."
An Interdisciplinary Symposium Across Medieval and Early Modern Studies.

Dates:
August 4-5, 2006

Place:
University Club, University of Western Australia, Perth

Keynote Speakers:
Graham Bradshaw, Professor of English, Chuo University
Heather Dubrow, Professor of English, University of Wisconsin-Madison

"All the world's a stage," says Jaques in 'As You Like It'. This
symposium seeks to investigate the relationship between the world and
the theatre, and how one informs or transforms the other, in medieval
and early modern Europe. While we anticipate that the symposium will
focus primarily on the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, we
encourage papers that wish to discuss notions of ritual and social
performance in the medieval and early modern world.

It is hoped that the selected proceedings of the symposium will be
published in a collected volume.

Please submit a short, detailed abstract (250-500 words) for a
presented paper of no more than 20 minutes to Brett D. Hirsch
(bdhirsch_at_cyllene.uwa.edu.au). Postgraduate students are encouraged
to give papers, and travel subsidies are available. Both keynote
speakers will be facilitating masterclasses for postgraduate students
in the week before the symposium. The date of these masterclasses is
to be advised.

Please submit abstracts by Friday 13 May, 2006.

For more details, please visit the symposium website.
