CFP: Visual Culture, New Media, Asian American Studies (3/15/06; MLA '06)
The Asian American Literature Division of the MLA announces the following panel
and seeks papers for MLA December 27-30, 2006, Philadelphia, PA. Deadline March
15, 2006.
"Visual Culture, New Media, Asian American Studies"
Analyses and examples of intersections with television, film, digital media,
video games, Internet, art, and new media technologies. Topics may include but
are not limited to:
-museum exhibitions
-architecture of urban or suburban Asian American neighborhoods
-independent Asian American films and videos (all genres--animation,
documentary, fiction, shorts, feature-length)
-commercial films (characters, settings, Hollywood, Canada, discussing
international/ Asian American diasporic financing, etc.)
-television (network, cable, characters, etc.)
-public access cable programs
-Asian American digital communities/websites/portals
-Asian American 'zines, magazines, journalism, blogs
-online interactive games
-video games (specific games, genres, characters, companies, etc.)
Send 1 page abstracts and 1 page CVs to greta.niu_at_rochester.edu by March 15,
2006. Please note that this panel is already accepted for MLA 2006 and all
panelists must be current MLA members by April 7, 2006. Contact Greta Niu with
