Abstracts welcome for a panel on "Practicable knowledge and domestic
discourses" at the 2006 meeting of NEASECS in Salem. More information about

This panel seeks to highlight ways in which women's education (both as a formal
category and as a practicable discipline) helped them write domestic discourses
in innovative ways. Papers that approach ways in which manuscript texts, like
recipe books and account books, provide female writers with interactive,
ductile writing forums are particularly welcome, as are papers that utilize
interdisciplinary approaches to look at how women acquired, utilized, and
disseminated practicable knowledge. Papers might also look at how women's
practicable educations become naturalized in images of housework, account
keeping, sewing, cooking, arithmetic, or calligraphy in novels, plays, and
other literary genres by women.
