Call for Papers: "Race and the Americas"

Scholars working in Latin American Studies, North American (including =
U.S. or American) Studies, and creole languages and literatures are =
encouraged to submit proposals for 20-minute papers on the above topic =
for presentation at the 2006 South Atlantic Modern Language Association =
Convention in Charlotte, N.C.=20

Possible approaches include but are not limited to: the construction of =
race in Americas writing; slavery, abolition, and rights movements =
across the Americas; slave rebellion, nationalism, and Revolution; =
diaspora and transculturation; constructions of racial purity and =
hybridities/m=E9tissage; creolization and Americas/New World writing.=20

This panel is part of the first SAMLA Symposia, a series of linked =
events on the topic to include a featured speaker, a symposium of =
invited scholars, as well as this special session panel.
