(3/15/06; PAMLA 11/10-11, 2006)
Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association Conference 2006
November 10-11, 2006
University of California, Riverside
Riverside, California
Submission Deadline: March 15, 2006
Paper proposals are requested for a panel of the PAMLA conference.
This panel will investigate the depiction of "memory" and "forgetting" as tropes in contemporary American culture, with papers dealing with the issues and themes surrounding 9/11 and its aftermath particularly welcome. Papers should interrogate how the modalities of "remembering" and "forgetting" serve to construct the personal and the political, the individual and the national in American culture. Papers dealing with contemporary film, poetry, fiction, and space are all welcome.
