CFP: Technology and the Literature and Writing Classrooms (4/15/06;
M/MLA 11/9-11/12/06)

M/MLA Special Session, November 9-12, 2006, Palmer House Hilton, Chicago

Session Title: Technology and the Literature and Writing Classrooms

Building on the 2003 and 2004 M/MLA workshops on "Integrating Technology
in the Classroom, " this special session also aligns with the 2006 M/MLA
informal theme of high and low culture to address the ways in which
teaching about traditional texts alongside contemporary media and
working in digital environments impacts our pedagogic, interpretive,
critical, and research practices. Our particular focus will be on the
use and study of digital technology and media--whether digital media
texts themselves or writings about the new media--in both literature and
writing classrooms, from the graduate literature class to the first-year
composition class, from the senior major class to the business and
technical writing class. We invite papers on such topics as the
following: the replacement of traditional print with electronic texts;
the study of contemporary digital culture; the adoption of or writing
about digital media such as mailing lists, blogs, Blackboard, and MOOs;
the theory and teaching of the intersection between the new technology
and issues of race, class, gender, and nation among others; and the use
of alternative or virtual assignments related to literary, rhetorical,
visual, or electronic texts.
Please send a 250-word abstract and a brief biographical note within the
