CFP: Genealogies of Friendship in the Early Modern Period
Panel proposal for 2007 Renaissance Society of America conference to be
held in Miami, March 22-24, 2007.

This panel proposes to bring together papers that examine literary
representations of friendship with an eye to the concept's historical
and theoretical significance. Papers that explore the ways in which
early modern texts reinvent the classical and medieval traditions of
writing about friendship are especially welcome. Also of interest are
close readings that consider the rhetorical and/or poetic significance
of friendship particularly in the context of early modern notions of
private life, in the sense that Duby and Ariès use the term.
