CFP: Subversive Re/Viewing Conference: Readings, Communities, Practices (UK) (7/1/06; 12/2/06)
CALL FOR PAPERS
Subversive Re/Viewing: Readings, Communities, Practices
Faculty of Media, Art and Communications
University of Gloucestershire, UK
2nd December 2006
An interdisciplinary one-day event, this conference seeks to reconsider the meaning of the subversive by investigating current practices and readings across the fields of art, media, film and cultural studies. This opportunity to 're/view' invites work that looks again... looks awry... offers alternative readings... re-visualises... Its aim is to highlight they ways in which identities are being re-voiced and re-articulated across a wide range of cultural phenomena. Suggested areas for re-investigation include:
Subversive Readings:
- queer readings
- readings of subversive genders and sexualities in art, media and film
- readings of subversive heterosexuality
- readings of the erotic and sexual representation
Subversive Communities:
- fan cultures
- subcultural communities
- queer communities
- audiences
Subversive Practices:
- re-visualising digital film/experimental media practices
- visual art practice - looking awry
- interrogations of the production and consumption of cultural 'artefacts'
- queer filmmaking
Papers, presentations, and exhibitions of practical work that take up the broad conference themes are invited. It is envisaged that this conference will appeal to those researching from a wide spectrum of approaches in relation to identity, sexuality, and gender. As such, it is a unique opportunity for practitioners and theoreticians to participate in panels ranging across subversive readings, communities and practices.
