Call for papers, proposals, and panel suggestions: "Faith and Violence:
Jihad and Holy War" is the theme of the annual Northeast Region
Conference on Christianity and Literature to be held October 20, 21 2006
at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, NY. Keynote address to be
delivered by David S. Reynolds, author of "John Brown, Abolitionist: The
Man Who Killed Slavery, Sparked the Civil War, and Seeded Civil Rights."

Religious persons experience inner spiritual struggles to attain perfect
faith. In the past the struggle for spiritual perfection has led to
violence, holy wars and crusades. This conference theme looks to explore
this spiritual struggle and its sometimes attendant armed violence.=20

We invite papers, panels, and proposals on any aspect of literature and
its relationship to Christianity, encouraging the following:

Spirituality
Struggle
Holy War/Jihad
Martyrdom
Christian dialogue with Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism or other
faiths
Science and Religion
Interdisciplinary approaches=20
Creative writing, including creative non-fiction, memoir, spiritual
autobiography

Selected papers will be published in the conference proceedings.=20
