Graduate Student Working Group- The "F" Word: The Next Season
Call for Participants
2006 Women and Theatre Conference August 1-2, Chicago
Deadline for Submission May 24th
The mission of this working group is to create a student-driven roundtable
as part of an effort to engage more grad students in the conversation
surrounding feminism, as well as to establish a stronger network, and an
ongoing discussion amongst graduate scholars in WTP related fields
surrounding the following questions:
Where/what is feminism in contemporary graduate student life and studies?
How does feminism fit into our current political climate? What are the
future roads of feminism emerging out of changing national and global
realities? Is scholarship/theory activism? What does it mean to be a
feminist in the 21st century? What is the relationship between feminism and
queer theory? Amongst contemporary students/graduate programs is there an
aversion to the concept or word feminism? Is the feminist movement "over"
or is there still a need for organized political activism surrounding
women's issues? In addition to considering the preceding questions,
participants are asked to prepare a short statement (3 minutes) about their
current work considering how it relates to feminism and/or women in theatre.
What issues are the most compelling to you in the field of feminism and
women's studies?
Interested participants should reply to:
Jen-Scott Mobley, Graduate Student Representative for the Women and Theatre
Program at jen-scottm_at_nyc.rr.com
(Cell # 646-662-5702)
Please include your name, contact information and academic affiliation as
well as a brief (350 words) statement about your current research interests
and how they relate to feminism and/or women in theatre. Please also
indicate which of the above questions you find most compelling and
articulate briefly your position (300-500 words). Please also indicate your
confirmed availability to attend the conference in August.
