Call for Proposals
New Collection entitled _Understanding Plagiarism: Discussions for Students
and Teachers_
Eds. Anne Meade Stockdell-Giesler, Tracy Ann Morse, Rebecca Ingalls,
Michael Donnelly, and Joanna Castner

Editors of this new collection are interested in proposals for articles that
will fill a middle ground we find largely missing in the literature about
plagiarism, and that is a collection of scholarly discussions about the
intricacies of plagiarism for students.
Proposed topics may include, but are not limited to the following:

* theories about the way knowledge is created that affect ideas about
* critical comparisons between collaboration and plagiarism
* intellectual property law as it applies to student writing
* historical constructions of authorship and their affects on modern
understandings and practices
* problematics of peer response groups
* discussions of technology as it helps to encourage and police plagiarism
* the impact of such plagiarism research on the co-construction of student
and teacher identities
It is the contention of editors in the present collection that students must
be aware of and understand in a deep way the controversies about plagiarism
that writers continually negotiate. The bulleted issues above represent just
a short list of the issues that should be discussed with students if they
are to become truly adept at negotiating societal conversations within
academe and beyond and protecting themselves against the devastating label
of plagiarist. _Understanding Plagiarism: Discussions for Students and
Teachers_ will make such discussions accessible for students in university
and high school classes, and will provide teachers with tools for
facilitating such important conversations.
Instructions for Submitting a Proposal:
To submit a proposal for the collection, e-mail as a rich text or MS Word
document attachment a 500-word proposal and 75-word bio to by
